William D. Smith (Bill) died peacefully at home in Turnersville, NJ on Veterans Day,
November 11, 2017 at the age of 87.
Bill is survived by his wife Fran of Turnersville, son Dan and wife Barbara of Turnersville,
daughter Caryn and husband Peter Halvorsen of Richmond VT, son Brian of Williamstown; grandchildren Justin Halvorsen (Brooke) of Bend, OR, Stephanie Smith (Kevin), of Sewell, Aran Halvorsen of Boise, ID, and David Smith (Erin) of Blackwood.
Bill was born on July 19th, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to William A. and Grace (Becker)
Smith. He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, in Camden, DE where he excelled in Track and Field. Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1948 to 1951. On August 25,
1956, Bill married the love of his life, Fran Copper of Philadelphia, PA. In 1969, the family
moved to Stratford, NJ. Bill and Fran then moved to Turnersville in 2015.
Bill worked for Singer Corporation, and later TRW, as an Electronic Technician. He loved
music, nature, crossword puzzles, travel and family. Bill is remembered as always willing to lend a helping hand, and was a great friend to all that knew him. Bill and Fran recently
celebrated 61 years together.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Thursday November 16, 2017 from
10:00 – 11:30 am at Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral
service 11:30 am. Inurnment to follow at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery,
Williamstown.
