The story of Egizi Funeral Home is similar to so many stories of small, family-owned businesses in Washington Township and across America. Gary H. Egizi had been working in the 1960s in funeral service, when his father, Hugh Egizi, suggested they buy a five-acre parcel of land and open their own family funeral home. Construction began in 1969, and the doors opened in 1970. Gary chose to live above the funeral home for many years so he could be ready at a moment’s notice to help his neighbors, no matter the day or time.
Through hard work and a commitment to treating families with excellence and integrity, Egizi Funeral Home gained a stellar reputation in this community, and the business grew into one of the largest volume funeral homes in Washington Twp.
Almost five decades later, we remain owned and operated by a family – the only funeral home left in Washington Township that can say that. Owner Charles V. Chiango, Jr. joined the Egizi team in 1985 when he was just 19 years old. After 32 years of faithful ownership and operation, Gary Egizi passed the baton to Charles in 2002. Today, Charles continues to build upon the amazing legacy began by Hugh and Gary, and Gary still works side-by-side with the whole team.
Charles and his wife, Jacki, and their two boys Charlie and Anthony now live above the funeral home as did Gary and his wife did a generation ago. At the heart of everything we do is family, and that truly is the Egizi difference.
