Wesley D. Gordon, 80, of Washington Twp, NJ passed peacefully surrounded by family on November 13, 2023. Loving husband of Margo Gordon and proud father of his two daughters, Janet Rohach (Michael) and Jennifer Souders (Thomas).
He was the best Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Emily, Amanda, and Dylan. He lived for the day he became a Great Pop-Pop to Austin, Owen, Kirra, Max, Wyatt, and Ivy.
Wesley was born in Norristown on June 2, 1943 to Edward and Sara Gordon. He was the middle child of three brothers and three sisters. He graduated from Ridley Twp. High School in 1962 where he met his wife of 58 years.
In 1967, Wesley was called to serve his country. He spent one year in Korea and then one year in Vietnam. He served in the Army from 1967- 1970. He never spoke much about his time in the military but he was always so proud to be an American, so proud to have served his country, and so proud to honor her everyday.
Wes followed in his father’s footsteps, forging a career as a truck driver.
He spent much of his career driving for Matlack, eventually starting his own business, J&J Bulk Transport. In 2005, he hung up his hat and suspenders and started his well deserved retirement. During his career, he traveled all over this country, driving long miles away from home, to provide a comfortable life for his family.
Wes loved a project, whatever it was, he went all in. When he decided he was going to do some woodworking, he bought every tool, created his own workshop, and made toys for the kids and pens for the adults. If you stopped by the house, you left with something he made in the workshop.
When he decided to grow some tomatoes, he turned the backyard into a farm. He grew every vegetable, in abundance, and then gave them to all of the neighbors.
Wes loved to travel, especially with his family. He loved creating memories for the grandkids, traveling in the RV to DisneyWorld, stopping at sights all along the way. He was so excited to make every moment one they would carry with them for the rest of their lives. In that, he succeeded. He loved his friends. He could walk into a room of strangers and leave everyone’s friend. Wes was the life of a party. He loved to dance, laugh, and make everyone smile.
Mostly Wes loved tradition, especially family tradition. The tradition of Sunday dinner was most important to him. No matter where you were, or what kind of week you had, you showed up for dinner. He sat at the head of the table and enjoyed the banter, the laughs, the tears, and the stories.
Wes would simply want to be remembered for how passionately he loved his wife and his family and to know the legacy he left behind will live on in each of them.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 12:00 PM. Interment Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wesley’s memory may be made to Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center, 125 County House Rd., Blackwood, NJ 08012.
