Thomas McCann, Jr.
On October 31, 2023, of Washington Township. Age 75. Beloved husband of Diane McCann (nee Gruzlovic). Devoted father of Thomas M. McCann and his stepdaughter of Lori Mann. Loving grandfather of Kaila, Chloe, and Andrew. Dear brother of James, Michael, Miriam Wildes and the late Alyce and Lou. Cherished son of the late Thomas and Jessie (nee Jacobs) McCann, Sr.
Thomas, Tommy to his friends and family, grew up on McCann Farm in Hurffville, New Jersey. Under his father, Tom Sr., he learned how to cultivate produce, especially tomatoes which he continued to grow in his personal garden the rest of his life using them for his famous hot sauce and other recipes. He graduated from Glassboro State (now Rowan University) and began a storied decades-long career with Del Monte Foods retiring after 43 years. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed skiing, golfing, and dancing, his favorite being the “mashed potato.” He was part of a bowling league and played on the McCann nursery softball team.
Known for his sayings and quips, he always had a quick retort. A perfectionist he often said “he always had a full eraser because he never made a mistake.” Tommy loved life and his family and was quick to remind friends that “it’s not about the destination but the journey!” There were beach trips, rooting for the Eagles and Phillies, spending time with his adopted English family, and of course raising a glass at his favorite bar, Otts.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Tuesday 9:00 – 11:00 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral Service 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thomas may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation.
