Stephen J. Janco, 91, of Deptford, N.J., a retired accountant, died November 18.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a graduate of South Catholic High School. He served in the U.S. Army and later attended LaSalle College. An accountant, he worked for General Accident, Curtis Publishing Co. and Peat Marwick. He later was the budget director for the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority. He was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
As a younger man, he enjoyed golf, deep-sea fishing and bowling. He tackled home improvement projects and took pride in paneling his home in Ocean City, NJ. He kept his lawn meticulous and had a green thumb with roses.
An animal lover, he never turned his back on a cat in need, taking in injured cat Beau and the occasional homeless cat, like Scooter, who showed up at his door. He enjoyed visiting with his daughters’ dogs over the years, especially Bruiser.
A devoted son and husband, he took care of his mother Agnes and later his wife, the late Geraldine (nee Frawley) who died in 2015, when they were ill.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan M. and Mary Anne Janco; two brothers, James and Gerard and several nieces, nephews and his cat, Cali.
Viewing Tuesday 10:15 – 11:15 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 176 Stage Coach Rd., Sicklerville, NJ 08081 with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
