On Friday April 23, 2021, Sophia Vallei (nee Tsenopoulos), loving wife of the late Quinto Vallei and devoted mother of Alexander Vallei, passed away at the age of 96 due to complications from Alzheimer’s dementia. Sophia was born in Tripoli, Greece on January 4, 1925 to the late Epaminondos and Stavroula Tsenopoulos. She was also preceded in death by her sister (Chryssoula) and brother (Frank). She will be missed by relatives in the United States and Greece.
On April 29, 1957, Sophia married Quinto Vallei. They raised one son, Alexander (1959).Sophia became a United States citizen on March 5, 1958.Throughout her life, Sophia worked at different types of jobs including as a volunteer nurse in Greece and as a successful dressmaker in the United States. She had a loving, warm and open quality that drew people to her. She had a wisdom about life and an appreciation for people that made anyone who knew her feel comfortable. Sophia had an infectious laugh, a gregarious personality and a dignified presence.
Although she eventually lost her battle with dementia, she never lost her sweetness, smile and kind spirit. Throughout her life, she had a resolve and determination to continue no matter how difficult a situation might be, and this resolve and determination never subsided during her illness with dementia. She will never be forgotten and will be dearly missed. Sophia was a dynamic and beautiful person.
Sophia’s life will be honored and remembered privately by her family.
