Shirley M. Owens
On February 4, 2025 of Monroeville. Age 89. Beloved wife of the late Robert M. Owens Jr. Devoted mother of Robert Owens III (Laverne), Clayton Owens, Sky Owens, Ray Owens (Laura), Shelly Sanders (David), and the late Sherry Owens. Loving grandmother of Robert IV, Khalifani, Ray Jr., Akira, and Gabby. Proud great-grandmother of Cali, Nicolette, Trinity, and Cierra. Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Mom, or “Shirley” when we were messing with her, was a one of a kind lady. And in saying that, there is no exaggeration intended. In a life filled with lots of ups and downs, Shirley was the embodiment of the song “My Way”. She was bold and brash in a time when women were not supposed to be. Her style was her own and she never worried or cared about what others thought she should be. When she loved you it was unfathomably deep. And, on the flip side, if you incurred her wrath, boy look out! She taught her children to judge people by what they did, not what they looked like. She spoke in a voice that could talk you off the edge of an abyss and could always make you feel like things would be “alright baby”. She was the rock and foundation upon which our family was based. Words cannot express how much she will be missed. To know her was to love her. Our hearts are broken Mom, but we will continue to live and love because of you. Thank you.
“I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all, and I stood tall and did it my way.”
Shirley’s life will be honored and remembered privately by her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
