Sheila R. McKaig
On February 29, 2024, Sheila Robbins McKaig (nee Shepard) of Sewell, NJ, passed away at home from natural causes, while surrounded by family. She was born on November 22, 1936 in Astoria, NY to the late Margaret and Thomas Shepard. Her loving father, who she adored, passed away when she was 13. She was the oldest of five siblings, who were raised in Pascoag, RI. Her siblings include the late Captain Arthur B. Shepard, III (Pete), Lieutenant Colonel John Shepard (Diana), Timothy Shepard, and Noreen Taylor (the late Thomas). Sheila met and married Robert Carrick McKaig on May 23, 1959 after he returned home from the Korean War. She had four daughters, Robin McKaig, Patricia Phillips (George), Susan Lubrano (the late Giuseppe), and Sheila Devlin (Gerald, Jr.). She also cherished her late husband’s family, the late Robert and Betty McKaig, the late Lewis and June Webster, the late Donald McKaig and Judy Cabral, and Cheryl and the late Michael Ames.
Sheila worked for Clover Department Store for 25 years, starting as a part-time cashier and retiring as a store manager. After leaving Clover, she opened numerous PetCo stores as manager until she took on a part-time position as a toll collector for the South Jersey Transportation Authority. Her position on the expressway was her favorite as she loved interacting with people and she retired in her late 70’s.
She was adored by her four daughters, and her 14 grandchildren, William, Albert, Eva, Jade, Jared, Michelle, Ashley, Andrew, Giuliana, Vincent, Gerald, III, Carolanne, Taylor, and Wyatt, as well as their spouses. She was also beloved by her 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and long time friends.
Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and friends, whom she treasured.
Sheila will always be remembered for her kind, compassionate, and generous heart. She was the matriarch of our family, and we will be forever grateful for her love and guidance.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Tuesday 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 11:00 AM. Interment Lake Park Cemetery, Swedesboro.
