Sergio DiStefano
On November 4, 2023, of Philadelphia. Age 67. Dear brother of Fernando DiStefano (Virginia), Margherita Leary (Herbert), Elisa MacKenzie (Ken), AnnaMaria DiStefano (James), John DiStefano (Carolyn), Lorella DiStefano, and the late Aldo DiStefano (Christine), and Marcellino DiStefano (Peggy). Cherrished son of Guerino and Maria (nee Giannetti) DiStefano. Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Sergio was the last of the DiStefano children born in Italy. He was a spirited, kind and intellectual man. Always a positive thinker and seeing the good in everyone he knew. Sergio travelled to India, Kuwait, Australia and backpacked throughout Europe. When he ran out of money, he never hesitated to call home and ask to wire him money to whatever country or city he was in. Of course, we obliged! He was a true nomad and transient but he always came back home to his roots.
Sergio loved the outdoors and nature. He wouldn’t hesitate to put a mat on the ground and do some meditation. He was also a very good tour guide when he took us to New York City and showed us the town. Sergio was definitely not a country boy! Most of his adult life was spent in New York and Philadelphia.
Sergio practiced the Hindu religion for a while, something he truly believed in. He became a vegetarian years ago and as a result, he attended culinary school and became a vegetarian chef. His vegetarian cuisine was superb. No Sunday gravy with meatballs and sausage for Sergio, but most of us accepted him for who and what he was.
Losing Sergio too soon should make us all aware of the frailty of our humanity and that the brief span of time we all still have is precious. Death serves as a reminder how important it is not to take your life or the blessings in your life, for granted.
Om Shanti, Sergio (Om Shanti is a Hindu phrase that means “ peace”).
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Tuesday 6:00-8:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral service 8:00 PM.
The family ask that no flowers be sent, and that all donations in Sergio’s memory be made to the Church of The Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Road, Sewell, NJ 08080.
