Sallie-Ann Stoner
On October 18, 2023 of Glassboro. Age 74. Dear sister of Catharine Welding (Francis) and the late Carol Stoner. Beloved daughter of the late Emery K. Stoner, M.D. and Eleanor (nee Painter). Loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Sallie-Ann Stoner, most recently of Antioch, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023. Sallie loved spending time outdoors hiking or canoeing and even snowshoeing. Equally she enjoyed shopping (especially for shoes!), working with her hands and British mystery television.
She created her own successful handywoman and painting business during a time when women did not often work in those fields. Sallie liked to break convention and sought to create a life where she could do what she liked regardless of what was expected; including her last big purchase – a motorcycle at age 73! She also dedicated her time and talents as Trustee for Antioch United Methodist Church (Illinois) and would spend many evenings and Saturdays getting the building ready for the next service. Her family will remember her spunk and wit, her love for Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, and her big grin.
Survived by her loving sister Catharine S. Welding with husband Francis X Welding along with loving nephews, nieces and grand-nephews/nieces. While the family is mourning the loss of this vibrant soul, Sallie will be reunited with her youngest sister, Carol Stoner, and her mother and father, Dr. Emery and Eleanor Stoner which can only fill hearts with joy at that celebration.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sallie’s memory may be made to Antioch United Methodist Church, 848 Main St., Antioch, IL 60002.
