Robert A. Horan

October 11, 1934 - September 1, 2011

Aged 76. Swimmer. Soldier. Businessman. Husband. Father. Friend. A native of the Kensington section of Philadelphia, lifelong summer resident of Avalon NJ, and resident since 1996 of Franklinville. Formerly of Washington Twp. Deceased September 1. Survived by his wife, partner and best friend of 50 years, Eileen nee Quinn, his beloved mother Dorothy nee Ehly, widow of Robert, and his daughter Janice, as well as by his cousins Richard Hofer Dorothy Smith and Doris Hanna nee Mooney, widow of Sam, their children, and brothers of the heart Joe McCartney Rita, Joe Walker Karole, Bob Muszlay Irene and Miles Wilson Dr. Millie Zacher. Also survived by sisters-in-law Barbara O’Malley nee Quinn, Ellen Quinn nee Wiest, widow of Jimmy, former brother-in-law Jim O’Malley and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who formed this only child’s extended family. To be missed most deeply by Morgan, his border collie and faithful companion.

A graduate of Stetson Junior High, 1950; Northeast High School, June 1952 and an alumni of Lighthouse Boys Club. Swam on Northeast’s Championship swim teams. Lifeguard Captain in Avalon NJ in the early 50s. A veteran of the US Army, serving in army intelligence. Employed in financial service, credit and sales roles throughout a distinguished career, retiring in 1997. Past employers included Snellenberg’s, Esso Credit, Credit Bureau of Norristown, Gimbel’s, Bamberger’s, S. Klein / Rapid American Corporation, Food Fair, Citibank Diner’s Club and later Citicorp Acceptance Services, and Global Payment Services/NDC. These last 2 grew exponentially under his sales leadership. Retired 1997

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday eve. 7:00-9:00 pm at the Egizi Funeral Home 119 Ganttown Rd. Washington Twp. and Thursday 10:15-11:15 am at SS Peter & Paul RC Church 362 Ganttown Rd. Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 am. Interment Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.

Always the consummate host/sports fan, I can picture Bob running around heaven, rounding up the Quinn boys to get them ready for the Eagles' opening game 9/11. Bob was a good-hearted person. I have fond memories of gatherings at the Horan house in years past. Rest in peace Bob.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob at NDC/Global Payments and had many many great times with Bob and the memories of those times our priceless. Eileen and Janice, We are shocked to hear of Bob's passing and we would like to send you our deepest sympathies. I had the good fortune of bringing Bob to National Data Corporation, where he worked with me for a number of years. Bob was the best at his craft, but more importantly, he was a terrific individual who could lift anyone's spirits when they were down or coach his team of sales managers to achieve exceptional results. It was easy working with Bob, since he always outperformed our expectations, month in and month out. When I ordered a Dewar's and water at our first dinner meeting, I knew I had a friend for life! We had so many great experiences and laughs together and I only wish I could be there on Thursday to share them with you. But, in that regard, I'm probably not unlike anyone else that knew him! Bob will always have a warm place in our hearts and whenever I think of him, I'm sure that our many great times together will come flooding right back. May God Bless Bob,

I want to send my deepest sympathies to Mrs. Horan and Janice Horan on the passing of my old friend and former employer at Citicorp and NDC. Bob was a great leader and friend who always had a smile and a story to tell. My deepest condolences to all the Horan Family. Best Regards, Dick Hart

Bob Horan was my freind and an extrordinary boss for several awesome years at NDC/Global Payments. He was a mentor to me and I have called him several times over the years since we left Global for advice and information. In fact I just talked with him about 3 weeks ago for about 30 minutes. He sounded great--like the Bob I have always known. Bob's passing is a shock and a big loss to us all. Bob Horan was "one of the good guys", that's for sure. I am certainly going to miss my friend Bob Horan! E Wally

Dear Horan Family, at this moment of sorrow we share our condolences. Despite the sadness we cannot forget a fantastic history that started years ago and is still unfinished as he lives in hearts, minds and personalities. A Life well lived is worth to be an example, is worth to continue. As the apostle teaches in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comfort us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble,” . We wish the God of all comfort to be with you, Janice, Mom Eileen and Grandma Dorothy. Our distance in miles does not prevent us to be with you all in mind and heart.
