Philip Callahan
On December 30, 2023, of Washington Twp. Age 73. Beloved husband of the late Edith (nee Clinton). Devoted father of Brian (Jennifer) and Eric (Lauren).Loving grandfather of Hannah, Abigail, and Chance. Brother of Kathleen Barrese, Timothy, Virginia, and the late Dennis Callahan.
Phil Callahan was born in Jersey City, NJ. Raised in Hazlet. he was the oldest of five children born to Phillip Callahan Sr and Virginia (nee Flynn).
His surviving siblings are Kathleen, Timothy and Virginia. He is preceded in death by his brother, Dennis.
After he graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. He moved to south Jersey with his wife, Edith. This is where they made their home for over 50 years. Phil’s boys, Brian (Jen) and Eric (Lauren) gave Phil three beautiful grandchildren: Hannah, Abigail and Chance.
Phil’s cousin, Patricia and her husband, Jack, also moved to south Jersey and the foursome was inseparable. They vacationed together and raised their children together, which fostered Phil’s special bond with their daughter, Tara.
Phil wanted to be the person you could count on, whether it was working late to make sure food was on the table for his family or going the extra mile for one of the guys at work.
Phil understood the desire to work hard to produce results. He enjoyed his last job before retirement at the Philly Shipyard where he was Maintenance Supervisor. He had many friends at the shipyard and would tell tales about the yard around the holiday table.
Phil will be remembered as a dad, grandfather, cousin, uncle, friend & co worker.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday 7:00-9:00 PM and Friday 8:15-9:15 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM at the Church of The Holy Family, Washington Twp. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing
