Mitchell S. Spera

On June 19, 2026 of Washington Twp, formerly of South Philadelphia. Age 65. Beloved husband of Bernadette (nee Caristo). Devoted father of Santina Spera, Samantha Spera, Nicole Zierten (Alec), and Gianna Spera. Loving grandfather of Mela Michelle Zierten. Dear brother of Frank Spera (Rosie) and the late Florence Panto (Frank). Cherished brother-in-law of Robert Caristo, Joseph Caristo (Regina), Cinthia Beare (Robert) and Nicholas Caristo. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Survived by his dogs, Lucia and Enzo.

Mitchell was a true family man, always being a rock for his family. He was an honest man who always kept his word. He was an outgoing man, with charisma and a good sense of humor, one to always bust chops. He rarely complained but knew what he wanted and was usually the lead decision maker.

Billy Joel, Elton John, and The Beatles were his favorite bands. He was a huge fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies, and he was not a fair-weather fan, he watched them even if they played badly. He loved classic movies starring James Cagney and Carry Grant. He also loved WW2 history and politics. Christmas Eve was a special night for his family, as everyone would gather at his and Bernadette’s house to celebrate together. Nights would end with Mitch in his oversized recliner watching Philly sports, a documentary, or Turner Classic Movies.

Mitch spent 40+ years in banking, including loan underwriting, business development at Beneficial Bank for 30 years, and relationship management for the auto industry. He worked for six years as a Service Operations Manager at Caddy Corporation. According to his Linkedin profile, he’s been “Retired @ Spera Inc.–Honing Culinary Skills along with yardwork and general nonchalance” since January 2024.

He worked on Broadway as a child, starring in commercials, like Heinz. His parents would often drive him to New York to act. He played the piano, keyboard, sang, and wrote original music. He played in several bands, including Mitch Spera & The Hitters, Dogs Playing Cards, Xtreme Band, which he was still a member of at the time of his passing.

He stayed close with childhood friends from the neighborhood, Rusty Marconi, Mark Negro, and Joey Milone.

Family and friends are welcome to attend his viewing Wednesday, June 24^th 7:00 – 9:00 PM and Thursday, June 25^th 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, 362 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Cremation to follow.
