Marie J. Hughes
(nee Eichenlaub) On June 14, 2020 of Clayton. Age 93. Beloved wife of the late Owen J. Devoted mother of Veronica “Ronnie” (Rossetti) and the late Maryann Hughes. Loving grandmother of Annette Marie and Marissa Elizabeth. Dear sister of Joseph Eichenlaub and Anna LeFevre. Loved by nieces and nephews.

Marie was her family’s matriarch, the eldest daughter of eight. She left school after eighth grade to help her mother care for her younger siblings. After attending sewing classes in the evening, she worked as a seamstress for Stetson Hats and Brentwood Sportswear. When she relocated from Philadelphia to New Jersey, she worked at Garden State Race Track until her retirement at age 74. Marie’s family was her whole world. She loved the Jersey Shore and enjoyed vacations with her family in Cape May. She delighted in babysitting her granddaughters and watching them dance in their recitals. Holiday meals at Thanksgiving and New Year’s were always celebrated at her house. Marie was the primary caregiver for both her husband, Owen, who died from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease, and her oldest daughter, Maryann, who bravely battled cancer for 26 years. She was kind, selfless, loving and generous to all who knew her and she will be sadly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thursday 7:00-9:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be private.
