Marie A. Laraway
(nee Scaravaglione) On August 11, 2024 of Washington Twp. Age 83. Beloved wife of Russell. Devoted mother of Tracy Colligan (Don) and Russell Laraway (Verlana). Loving grandmother of Kayli, Amy (Ryan), Kevin, Anthony, Chas, and Starks. Dear sister of Frank Scaravaglione (Marge). Loved by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her parents, the late Frank J. Scaravaglione and Guarina M. (nee Curcio).
Marie was affectionately known by many names. Closest family and friends called her Re Re, and most of her nieces and nephews called her Aunt Re. Her favorite names by far, however were “Mommy” and “Mom Mom”. She cherished her children and grandchildren dearly.
Marie always had a creative side. Most of her life, she crocheted. Her repertoire included her famous baby blankets and doilies, but she crocheted so many different things over the years until her hands just couldn’t anymore.
Marie had a very tender spot for children and animals. She loved children laughing and playing around her and always held the babies. Hummingbirds brought her great joy as did so many other species of birds, invited with various feeders into the back and front yards of her home.
Her greatest love of animals was that of her precious pooches. She’s also survived by Chuck and Freckles, her little Jack Russell mix rescue pups. Re Re had many pets over the years including rescued birds, fish, gerbils, kittens, stray cats and dogs, turtles, frogs, snakes, mice, a groundhog, and of course her own beloved dogs. They brought her much comfort and joy.
She was also voracious reader amassing a giant collection of books over the years which she’d generously share with anyone.
Re Re was a world class cook and many of her secrets and recipes are now in the hands of her children and husband. Despite her love of cooking, Re Re looked forward to going out to dinner on Saturday nights -to be clear – Saturday, not Friday and would on occasion enjoy a “shot” or “sip” of tequila with her grandkids.
Her silliness, sense of humor, and loving presence will be dearly missed by so many.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thursday 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 176 Stagecoach Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 12:45 pm. Interment Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Samaritan Hospice.
