Aunt of Lloyd, Wayne (Bernadette), Joyce Tanner-Fisher (Bruce), Margaret “Meg” Tanner-Szumowski, Kevin (Michelle), Christopher, Jeffrey, and Kathleen Luebkert-Brunette (Chris) and the late Jeffrey Tanner and Timothy Luebkert. Peggy graduated from Clayton High School, the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing, received a BS in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters of Nursing from University of Washington, and a post-Masters Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. She was commissioned in the US Army Nurse Corps, serving on active duty in South Carolina and South Vietnam, and as a Reservist, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Peggy was a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Nursing, a Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honorary inductee, member of the American Nurses Association, and the New Jersey State Nurses Association, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Vietnam Veterans Association of South Jersey, the American Legion, the World Association for Emergency and Disaster Medicine, and the Emergency Nurses Association for whom she served as National President, as well as Disaster Management & Response Journal, Associate Editor of the Journal of Emergency Nursing, and reviewer for a number of publications. She retired from AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where she served as an Emergency Clinical Education Specialist. Peggy also taught a number of classes in emergency and trauma nursing and writing for publication. Students appreciated her ability to make complex material understandable, her use of humor and her “war” stories that made learning memorable. Patients, families and colleagues greatly valued her commitment to excellence, compassion, and expert clinical knowledge. Peggy’s greatest satisfaction came in helping others achieve their personal goals and spent countless hours assisting new authors in polishing their manuscripts.
