Lorraine Madden
(nee Greager) On May 2, 2020 of Clayton. Age 86. Beloved wife of Fred H. Madden, Sr. Devoted mother of Fred. H. Madden, Jr. (Patricia) and Thomas Madden, Sr. (Margaret). Loving grandmother of Patricia, Maureen, Thomas, Hillary, Tara, Frederick, III, Catherine and Margaret. Proud great-grandmother of Jace, Kaylee-Jo, Alyssa, Ava-Jo, Jeffrey, Declan, Everly and William. Dear sister of Esther Florence.
Lorraine was born in 1933 in a mining town of Shamokin, Pa. She was the daughter of a coal miner. The family did not have many things, but one thing they did have was plenty of love. Lorraine was the third child of five children born to Clarence and Marie Greager.
In the 1940s the family moved to South West Philadelphia to seek better opportunities. At the age of 15 Lorraine went to work to contribute to the families income. Lorraine attended catholic school, first St. Francis DeSales Grammar School, then off to West Catholic Girl’s High School. Her love of church and Lady Fatima in particular was very deep.
In 1952 she met the love of her life Fred Madden, Sr. and they were married in 1953. Soon after, her first son was born, Fred Madden Jr. Four years later a second son Thomas was born. She loved her family.
Lorraine was always employed. She worked at a local hospital, Bell Telephone, Harleco Company, A.E. Price Importers, and lastly Johns Manville in Winslow Junction in human resources where she retired.
Lorraine and Fred relocated to Surfside Beach, SC where they called home for twenty years. The owned a bar in Surfside Beach-Surfside Freddie’s. Lorraine handled all of the accounting and fun for the bar and community. They returned to NJ to be close to their family in 2016.
Lorraine was blessed with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She lived a rich and very full life of love, laughter and family.
She will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Lorraine’s life will be honored and remembered privately by her family due to the health crisis of COVID-19.
Lorraine’s life will be celebrated with family and friends at a later date.
