Scott “Scotty” Cains was called home to heaven on March 10, 2025. A lifelong New Jersey resident and a proud servant of his country, Scotty dedicated his life to helping others. He was one of the original founders of Seabrook House for addiction recovery in Bridgeton, NJ, a testament to his unwavering commitment to those seeking a new way of life.
Never one to slow down, Scotty found his second home at the Four Seasons Gym in Glassboro, NJ, where he started each morning exercising and bringing smiles with his infectious humor and warm disposition. A certified baker and dietitian, he was known for his legendary pies—if you knew Scotty, you were surely graced with one.
For over 55 years, he was a devoted Friend of Bill’s, carrying the message with integrity and compassion, helping thousands of men and women on their journeys. Every Sunday morning, you could find him serving at Maryville Addiction Treatment in Franklinville, NJ, where he volunteered for over 25 years. And of course, he was the man behind the best pot of coffee—one he’d insist took exactly 52 minutes to brew.
In his own famous words:
“If you BS the baker, you’ll get a bun, but if you BS yourself, you won’t get a crumb.”
Scotty lived his truth with every fiber of his being, always reminding us that being a Friend of Bill’s gave him the best life he ever had. In lieu of flowers, we ask that all Friends of Bill make a 7th tradition donation at any meeting God leads you to.
Until we meet again, we will surely trudge the road of Happy Destiny.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Scotty’s life Friday, March 21st, 6:30-7:30 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral service 7:30 PM.
