Joyce E. Redcay (nee Mergenthal) a longtime resident of Whitman Square (Washington Township), went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 11th. Age 61. She went peacefully surrounded by the love of her life, husband Glenn Redcay, puppy Max, and loving family. Loving daughter of Patricia (nee Williams) and the late James Mergenthal. Dear sister of Patricia Sawyer, Lorraine Dersch, Claire Blake, James Mergenthal, Joan McKinstry, Bruce Mergenthal, Wayne Mergenthal, Kathleen Parmiter, Stephen Mergenthal and Delores Carlin. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Born March 20th, 1956 in Camden New Jersey, the seventh child of eleven siblings, Joyce grew up to pursue her nursing degree at Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1977. Joyce went on to be a tireless and passionate patient advocate in the nursing field for over 40 years. She most recently worked at Underwood / Inspira Hospital of Woodbury for the last 25 years of her career.
Joyce married her sweetheart, Glenn, in 1980 and the lovebirds proceeded to dance their way around the world, from rolling hills of Lancaster to the cobbled canals of Venice. Joyce and Glenn were avid bird watchers and generously shared that love with anyone interested. Joyce was a wonderful mother to her many feathered (Buckwheat and Freenbob) and furry (Bugsy, Celia and Max) friends.
Joyce’s passion for the Lord was an inspiration to many. Her hunger for the Word, unfailing trust in God’s will, and desire to reflect the love of Christ to those around her was a powerful and moving testimony. Her sweet, quiet presence and enthusiastic worship will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters in Christ.
Frequently teased about being “fragile” by her family, no one could have guessed the depth of strength and courage that would emerge during her two-year battle with breast cancer. Her joy, peace and unceasing hope proved to be a source of strength and comfort to all those walked the tumultuous road with her. Her many blessings in this life will only be surpassed by the abundant riches of her eternal life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation Sunday 7:00-9:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Family and friends will meet Monday 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at SS Peter and Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Rd. Washington Twp. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.egizifuneral.com
