Joyce Anne Osborne, 84, of Washington Township, NJ, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Joyce spent her childhood in Johnstown, NY, attended St. Patrick’s School, Knox Junior High School and graduated in 1957 from Johnstown High School. After working in a local bank for two years, she joined the ranks of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC, on August 17, 1959. During her 37 years of service, she was an Administrative Assistant to numerous Assistant Directors at FBI Headquarters, receiving many commendations and incentive awards for her work. During her tenure, there were five different FBI Directors, from J. Edgar Hoover to Louis Freeh.
After her retirement, Joyce continued to live in Virginia and attended many FBI Alumni luncheons and events, remaining friends with many of her former colleagues. For a number of years she delivered Meals on Wheels in Virginia, enjoyed knitting and crocheting hats and mittens to donate to the poor, watching the Washington Senators (now Nationals}, and Washington Redskins (now Commanders), and remained a lifelong New York Yankees fan. She happily traveled on many vacations with family and friends until just a few years ago.
In 2016, she moved to Southern New Jersey to live closer to her sister Kathy and purchased a home in the same Over 55 community. She spent many happy hours riding her electric scooter around the development, enjoying the sun and chatting with many neighbors. After her health began to decline in late 2020, she spent the following four years in Assisted Living facilities.
Joyce was one of the Founding Members of the Northern Virginia Chapter of FBI Alumni and served as its Secretary from 2007 to 2013. In New Jersey, she was a member of Holy Family Parish, Washington Township.
Joyce is survived by her sisters Kathleen Osborne Logan of Washington Township, NJ; Margaret Osborne Eddy of Burlington, VT; stepbrother James Ebert of Gainesville, GA; niece Linda Jensen; great nephews Brian and Kevin Willey; and great-great nephew Miles Willey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin William Osborne and Dorothy Noone Osborne.
