Joseph Mroz
On December 24, 2023 of Washington Twp. Age 71. Beloved husband of Deborah (nee Civa). Devoted father of Vincent Mroz (Candace) and Stephanie Mosiondz (Andy). Loving grandfather of Gavin, Hannah, Madison, Marissa, and Bryce. Dear brother of Lorraine Stopyra (the late William). Uncle of Michele Martin (Chris), Melissa Wawrznyck (Jeff), and Laurie Weiler (Mike). Loved by sister-in-law Sharon Civa, and the late Carolyn Civa-Smith.
Joe was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 18, 1952, to Ted and Filomena Mroz. He graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School and earned his degree from Temple University.
Joe had a passion for music. His love of music began when he was just four years old. He had an uncanny knack for listening to a song and immediately being able to play it on the piano. In addition to the piano, he played the accordion and concertina, but his greatest love was his Hammond B3 organ. He passed his musical talents on to his daughter Stephanie and his grandchildren. In his early years, Joe and Debbie enjoyed spending time playing poker and various board games with friends.
Joe was an avid sports fan and loved all the Philadelphia teams as well as the WTHS Minutemen football team. His biggest passion was for Penn State Football, and he passed this love on to his son Vince and grandson Gavin. He spent many Saturdays watching the games with them and even made memories at Happy Valley cheering on Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions.
Above all else, Joe loved his family. He met the love of his life Debbie in 1974 while playing backup to Jodie Sans at the Sportsmen’s Club. They married in 1975 and recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Together, they raised a son and a daughter and welcomed three grandchildren. Joe made many memories at his parents’ pool with family, extended family and friends and it meant so much to him to be able to continue this tradition at his own pool. Joe’s grandchildren meant so much to him and he loved attending their many games and concerts.
Although Joe is no longer with us, his spirit lives on through his family, friends and friends who are family. The band is back together!
