Joseph J. “#1 Pops” Pepe

On January 10, 2010, of Washington Twp. Age 82. Beloved husband of 60 years to Anna nee LaRocca. Devoted father of Julia Pepe and Maryanne Franz Bill. Loving grandfather of Marianna Deritis Dean, Janine McGraw Adam and Adam Franz Patty. Proud great-grandfather of Joseph, Justina, Adam, Austin and Ava.

Joe loved spending time with his family and friends and watching football. While attending Camden High, Joe played football and also played for the Zunni Semi-Pro Football team of Camden. Joe was a member of the Young Men’s Catholic Club, worked at RCA in Camden, and was a Prudential Insurance agent for 27 years. He was the owner of Pepe’s Sandwich Shop in Turnersville for 38 years. Joe’s motto was, “Keep a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and a drink in your hand.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday eve 7:00 – 9:00pm and Friday 9:30 – 10:30am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am at SS Peter and Paul RC Church, Washington Twp. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joe’s memory to the St. John of God School, 1145 Delsea Drive, P.O. Box 1979, Westville, NJ 08093.

dear anna and julie.... i am so sorry for your loss.... his memory will live on.. especially every-time i hear a little horn toot... i am sorry i cant be there.... may GOD be with you and your whole family at this time of grief.... i feel like i was part of your family... coming to pepes for 37 years, my mother used to take me there when i was a baby.. she passed away 2 months ago... now she has Joe to make her the best sandwiches in heaven! love bryan

My favorite uncle. His fun and loving spirit will be remembered forever.

Please accept my sympathies for your loss. I remember when Pepe's first opened and I worked next door at Richard Abel. I moved away in 1974 only to visit again in early 2000 with my grown daughter. You recognized me as soon as I walked through the front door. I always felt like I was in my second home whenever I walked in but of course the food was better than home. Thank you for giving my daughter and I some very good memories. God bless you all.

POP. my child hood is splattered with memories of trips to pepe's. he always came out to talk to us. most recent memories of walking in and hearing him toot the horn. he loved talking with everyone and i loved talking with him and sharing memories. to the family my thoughts and prayers are with you all, i know how difficult this time is. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He was too funny with the horn honking when I came in for my "Roscoeburger". He will be missed.

The day I met Pop I knew he was special. not a worry in the world and full of happiness. I truly felt like I was at my own grandparents home while visiting. I have always felt like family. My Pops was one of the wisest men i ever knew. Its hard to imagine life without him. Im so glad to have had so many years and memories that i will cherish forever.
