On August 18, 2023, of Sewell. Age 81. Beloved husband of the late Annie (nee Mani.) Devoted father of Rosemary Patel (Niraj). Loving grandfather of Anya and Blaise. Dear brother of the late Alex and Thomas Chandy.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that Jose P. Chandy, age 81, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023.
He was born the second of four boys on February 11, 1942 to Chandy Pulikapravil and Rosamma Joseph Chandy, in Kannikade Palai. He later moved to Korikode, Malabar.
Jose attended Saint Thomas High School in Palai, where there was a picture of Don Bosco. He soon became his favorite saint, and he began to read and learn all about him.
Hearing the news that Christian missionaries were being tortured ignited a religious passion in Jose. At 15 years of age, he attended Don Bosco Salesian Congregation Seminary in Calcutta at Bandal Church 1957. He then attended a seminarian program in Darjeeling (1957-1962). Immersing himself in the history of Thomas Moore, Jose learned that sainthood was possible, even while married so left the seminary.
Education was extremely important to Jose. He graduated from Oriental College in Infal Manipur, in 1972. He graduated with a BA in Economics and studied European, British and Indian history (327 BC to 1948), as well as English.
He also taught English, History and Geography to 8-10th grade students at Don Bosco School in Manipur from 1965-1973.
He married his wife Annie on May 12, 1975. He then immigrated to America on October 5, 1975.
He worked as a Class A Engineer at Parkview Hospital in Philadelphia until retirement.
Jose enjoyed many hobbies, including a passion for reading, especially poetry, and playing cards particularly 56
He is survived by his daughter Rosemary, his son-in-law Niraj, and his grandchildren Anya and Blaise. He was also a beloved brother to the late Alex and Thomas Chandy.
We celebrate that he is now with his Maker and United with Christ.
Cheers to Chandy ?
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday 10:15 AM-12:15 PM at SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 362 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 PM. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
