John G. Buddendorf, Jr.
On September 19, 2024, of Williamstown. Beloved husband of Rosemary Buddendorf. Devoted father of John Buddendorf, III (Anne), Julia Buddendorf (Tricia) and Jeanne Marie Alcaro (Dominic). Loving grandfather of Salvatore, Nina Marie, Santino, Maxine, Emily and John “Jack IV”. Proud great-grandfather of Leonardo. Dear brother of Joan Casey, and the late Donna Donahue.
John lived a full and remarkable life. Born and raised in northeast Philadelphia by his loving parents, Jack and Jennie, he thrived in a nurturing environment. His educational journey included 12 formative years in Catholic school, culminating in being part of the inaugural graduating class of Cardinal Dougherty High School.
After graduation, John joined the army, serving with distinction in the Army Intelligence Communications Division. His military career took him to various places, including Germany and Alaska, broadening his horizons and shaping his character.
Returning home, John met Janet, the mother of his children, and embarked on a new career working on the railroad. After retiring, he embraced the role of “Mr. Mom,” dedicating himself to the care and upbringing of his three beloved children.
John had a zest for life that was evident in his love for visiting Atlantic City, where he never met a casino he didn’t like. In the early 90s, he found his soulmate in Ro, with whom he shared countless adventures and travels. Their 29 years of marriage were filled with love, joy, and mutual support.
A passionate Philadelphia sports fan, John could often be found rooting for the Eagles and the Phillies, attending games whenever he could. However, his greatest joy came from being the biggest fan of his grandchildren. He was a happy presence on the sidelines, proudly wearing the team’s t-shirt and cheering them on with enthusiasm and love.
Despite facing numerous challenges, John was known for his unwavering positivity and the radiant smile that never left his face. His enduring optimism and warmth will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
A big thank you to the Hospice team, all of Pop’s caregivers and his newest buddy and C.N.A. Blaise that saw him to his final journey.
