James M. Szczur “Jimmy”
On September 17, 2023, of Washington Twp. Age 76. Beloved husband of Kathllen R. (nee McCormick). Devoted father of James J. Szczur and Mary Szczur. Loving grandfather of James “Jay”
Jim, Jimmy, dad, pop-pop,
Was known for his big smile, infectious over the top laugh, his sense of humor, his commitment to God, his family, and his country, the joy in listening to Frank Sinatra, the honor of being Irish and Polish at the same time and his love for beer and golf.
Graduating from Lasalle University, Jim spent numerous years with Sunoco oil company in accounting, auditing and finance. He traveled frequently around the country which allowed him to be able to share stories with his loved ones for many years. He was an excellent provider for his family.
Jim proudly served his country in the Vietnam war for the 199th army infantry brigade. He spent numerous years of his life donating time, making lifetime friends, and continuing to serve his country through the community for VFW post 6332. It was an organization near and dear to his heart.
Jim was a devout catholic and a man committed to God. Having attended catholic grammar school, served as an altar boy in early years and later attended North Catholic high School, he would remain in touch with many friends from the “old neighborhood” that he often spoke fondly of. Jim spent years as a Eucharistic minister for Saint Charles bringing communion to the sick and elderly who needed him. Jim joined the K of C in later years and again made lifetime long friends through his service to the community through the Catholic Church.
Jim’s favorite place was Sunny South Carolina, the warm weather, the palm trees, and the golf! It was a lifelong dream to retire and live there and he enjoyed the last 10 years making friends, traveling, trying to master golf, and enjoying his earned paradise with his wife by his side.
Jim was one of a kind. He will be missed by everyone, especially his family and friends who he’s left his mark with.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday 8:30-10:15 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 176 Stagecoach Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM. Interment, Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, Williamstown.
