James H. Duym, on August 18, 2014, of Berlin. Age 77. Beloved husband of Faith (nee Fancher). Devoted father of Kimberly Fillius (Andre) and James Duym, Jr. (Robin). Loving grandfather of Christopher and Holly. Dear brother of Robert Duym (Barbara), Kathryn Rypkema (Jacob) and Barbara Duym. Dear friend of Benny and Kathy Furino and Richard and Gay Mukalian.
James was such a loving husband and father. Also, he was an incredible grandfather. His family and friends feel truly blessed to have had such a wonderful person in their lives. Dad had such an energetic personality, and was the kind of person who wouldn’t let grass grow under his feet. Music was one of his great passions. His stories of playing gigs at the Lake Placid club in NY and the sound of his drums playing out in the garage will remain vivid memories.
Bear Spring Camps was dad’s Heaven on earth. Bear Springs is a small vacation lodge where, as a family, we would spend time without interruption. No phone or television, just a family growing closer each year. There were few things that brought dad as much joy as relaxing on the porch of the cabin with mom while watching his children, and later grandchildren, play on Great Pond. He would wake effortlessly when it came to fishing in the early mornings with his son and grandson. Those fishing trips will be held in their hearts forever and the tradition carried on for generations.
This grandpa had a truly special relationship with his two grandchildren. He adored spending time, having sleepovers, and creating breakfast masterpieces with them. He loved playing with his favorite “Grand dog” Kabuki for whom he had a great affection.
During dad’s early career he spent many years working for Burger King Corporation. In the late 80s he purchased his own franchise and through hard work and dedication he expanded the business to four locations. As a family we spent many years working together to make it a success. We will cherish the time we spent together building the business and the great times that all of that hard work afforded us to have. He was a wonderful provider for his family.
Upon retiring from the restaurant business he acquired his Real Estate license and really enjoyed many years of success creating a real estate team with his son and daughter. Dad’s ‘second’ job was that of proud promoter for mom and Kim’s jewelry business. He was so proud of their jewels and was usually the first to show the clients all of the latest items.
A close friend recently said it best. James has it all. A wonderful wife, two great kids and two beautiful grandchildren. He will be forever remembered and missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral Service 12:00 pm. Interment private.
