James E. Southwick

April 13, 1955 - May 8, 2012

James E. Southwick, on May 8, 2012, of Washington Twp. Age 57. Beloved husband of Jacqueline L. nee LaCasse. Devoted father of Lindsay B., Andrew J., and James K. Loving son of the late Kenneth and Barbara Southwick. Dear brother of William Chris, Kenneth, Robert Ricia and Richard. Also survived by his father and mother-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law and many loving nieces and nephews.

Jim lived his entire life in Washington Twp. and graduated with honors from WTHS in 1973 where he played football. He also graduated from Glassboro State College with a degree in Accounting.

After a long career as a Stock Broker, Jim went back to school and earned his teaching certificate in 2005. Jim was employed at Archway Programs in Atco from 2005 to Oct. 2011, were he taught computers. He also did part-time accounting work and put his love of music into his own DJ business.

Jim was an avid Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Flyers fan, but most of all loved spending time with his large family and many friends.

An active member of St. John’s UMC since 1996, Jim served as treasurer for 14 years, as well as many other ministries including playing on the softball team.

Jim was a past member of the Wash. Twp. Jaycees, being the star left-fielder on their softball team, as well as past member the Washington Twp. Rotary Club.

Jim became such an inspiration to so many. Courageously battling cancer for the past 3 1/2 years, he lived his life with dignity and a positive outlook, never letting the disease control his life and left every Dr. he met shaking their heads in amazement.

He will be fondly remembered but greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 8:30 – 11:30 am at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 149 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Funeral Service 11:45 am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053. Arrangements are under the care of the Egizi Funeral Home.

There is great sadness when a loved one passes, but you must think positive and believe that Jim is home with his Creator. The burden falls upon his loved ones - but you must remember the good and happy times you have shared and Jim will live in your great memories of and with him.

Dearest Southwick family, I remember Jim very well as he was in my brother, Wayne Henderson's class and they played baseball together. Of course, LuAnne, Robin, and I were often at those games to cheer them on. I am so very sorry for your loss of this great husband, father, brother, and friend. I know that he will be missed deeply. Yet I rejoice in knowing that Jim knew the truth, that this life is only the beginning, a gift from God in preparation for eternal life with him. I had the pleasure of working with Jim in Washington Twp and Atco campus of Archway. He was a devoted teacher and family man. He often spoke of his children and Jackie with Love in his eyes. I admired his Faith and Spirit thru all he has endured in the past few year.

I am so very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure of cutting Jim's hair prior to getting sick and he always had something funny to say. He would always smile and welcome you into his home. He was a wonderful man and will be sadly missed.

Mr. Southwick was such an amazing person and a true inspiration to everyone. He was such a fighter and strong person. His positive outlook on life was contageous to all staff and students here at Archway. Walking into his classroom, you always knew you would be greated with a warm smile. That ray of sunshine he brought into the building is missed greatly. But, his memory will never pass. I miss talking to him about the Phillies! Very fond memories of going to the Eagles games with Jim years ago. Jim was always fun to be around and I enjoyed his opinions on all "Philly" sports issues. I still have a poem that Jim wrote when Buddy Ryan was fired, "Ode to Buddy". That poem was a classic. Jim was a great guy and will surely be missed. Sorry for your loss.

Jim was one of the nicest guys from our class. Will always be remembered in the highest regards. Loved to play dodgeball in gym class -- still remember it to this day. Thoughts and prayers with the family. Jim Brohl

Jim was always a gentleman, a role model and a consummate professional educator. I will long cherish his attendance at last year's holiday luncheon, where he greeted each and every student, and they responded with applause, hugs and tears. We will miss you Jim.

So sorry to hear about Jim. I worked with him at Merrill Lynch for a long time and he was always a perfect gentleman and consummate professional. May you find peace in his memory.

To the Southwick Family, We were very shocked and saddened to read of Jim's passing. I remember the days of the Sowney's versus the Southwick's football games in the backyard on the pike. Jim and I shared school days K - 12 and later together in Rotary. He certianly will be missed. Our prayers are with you.
