Gloria D. Aitken
On January 24, 2024, Gloria D. Aitken (nee Swanson), age 93, passed peacefully to be with her Lord. Beloved wife of 50 years to the late William Aitken and seven years to the late William Ross. Devoted mother of Leslie Miles and Robert Aitken (Susan). Loving grandmother to Kirsten (Clarissa), Sarah, Andrew (Emily), Elizabeth and Abigail. Proud great-grandmother of James and Madelyn. Dear sister of Carl Swanson.
Resident of Glassboro, NJ, for most of her adult life, she was an active and devoted member of Trinity Protestant Church.
Phi Betta Kappa graduate of New Jersey State Teachers College (Kean University), she proceeded to obtain several advanced certifications. Gloria devoted many years of her life to working with physically and mentally challenged pre-school children and was honored many times for her contributions to children’s education.
Gloria was a passionate volunteer with the American Swedish Historical Museum of Philadelphia and served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary. She received the prestigious Amandus Johnson award, the museum’s highest award for service.
She was a caring “cat mom” throughout the years and leaves behind her beloved Anastasia and Prince Leo.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, January 29, at Wenonah Cemetery, 390 Wenonah Avenue, Mantua.
