A good man died today, buildings did not close or send workers home. Flags were not flown at half mast. School children attended classes as life went on, as they did yesterday and will again tomorrow, but he was my friend and family member…..and I want people to know a good man died today. George thank you for being a friend, I miss you, one day I will see you again. Until that day have fun with the LORD in Heaven.

There are some people who come into your life and quietly change its entire soundtrack. George Lutek was that kind of soul. He introduced me to the Grateful Dead—a gift that has lasted a lifetime. What started as shared songs became shared understanding. In Fishtown, when I was still finding my place, George was one of the first people I met who appreciated music the way I did—not just as sound, but as something sacred, something that carries you. Through life’s highs and lows, George’s good heart always shone through. He lived with that gentle wisdom you hear in a Jerry solo—steady, searching, and full of feeling. He understood that music isn’t just something you listen to; it’s something you follow. “Let there be songs to fill the air.” And George filled the air with them—songs that brought people together, songs that carried meaning, songs that linger long after the last note fades. He recently endured a profound loss with the passing of Dawn, his partner through so many years. She was by his side for much of his life—a steady presence, a shared harmony. Their love was the kind that doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. It simply is. *“If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung, Would you hear my voice come through the music?
