George Gennaoui was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. As a young accountant with Texaco Oil (working in Manhattan’s Chrysler Building), he would be transferred to Atlanta (taking residence in Stone Mountain), where he and Katherine, his wife of more than 50 years, and their family of four spent more than 10 years. He was later transferred to Houston and eventually settled in Cherry Hill, NJ where he retired after 30-plus years with Texaco. But he was far from retiring – in fact, he ventured off on his second career with son Steve – proprietor of SG Wallcoverings, in operation for nearly 30 years. His love for his family and passion for his business were joys in his life. He continued to work until being called home.
George took great pride in his service to his country during the Korean War, serving in the Honor Guard for President Dwight D. Eisenhower as part of the US Army, The Old Guard, 3rd US Infantry Regiment and would regularly attend reunions with “The Old Guard Association”. George loved following all the doings of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – and he would let you know all about it! He was proud of his large family and loved them dearly. He continued to actively play golf and tennis throughout his life and enjoyed his Philly sports – particularly the Eagles and Phillies. As many of his close friends and acquaintances have said in one way or another: To know George was to love George.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
