Emerita C. Lacuanan

(nee Atanacio), on January 12, 2021, of Washington Twp. Age 76. Beloved wife of Rey D. Lacuanan. Loving mother of Aimee M. Lacuanan and Rey A. Lacuanan. Dear sister of Gil Atanacio, Samson Atanacio, and Mila Atanacio-Aguilar.

Emerita was born in Asingan, Pangasinan (Philippines). She graduated from the Mapua Institute of Technology in 1968 with a degree in BS Chemical Engineering. She was a chemical engineer in the Philippines before moving to Chicago, where she became an accountant. She and her family moved to New Jersey in 1989.

When Emerita was young, she loved to travel the US by car with her sister Mila and friends. She also liked to read (she would finish a book in 2 days!). Later in life, Emerita became a member of the Two Hearts Prayer Group of The Holy Family Church. When it was warm out, she enjoyed working in her garden. She loved to socialize and eat out. At home, she loved doing Sudoku and Crossword puzzles and watching Dancing with the Stars.

Emerita touched many lives in her roles as a sister, wife, mother, and friend. She was always supportive and thinking of others, especially with her children and family. Those who were blessed to know her remember her as a person who was patient, honest, kind, and a good listener. Emerita will be dearly missed.

Emerita’s life will be honored and remembered privately by her family.

Hi Tita Mils..or simply Tita ..as I fondly called her... me n my husband- Philip will forever MISS U.. ur presence has always graced our gatherings or "salu- salo". I am so, so happy whenever u can make it n be just there in our Thursday " meryenda" or aftermath snacks.You are highly opinionated n strong in character. And so is ur heart to LOVE US AS UR FRIEND. U never forget to tell us how much u love us- me n Philip. And u never forget to bring us always any of ur harvested vegetables. We love u too Tita and we will forever cherish the great opportunity of considering us as ur " friend/ family". Sis Melit, your sweet, soft and gentle personality will be missed! Sis NIda will have to find another “chicken” partner when we feed the IHN recipients and we will have to make sure Sis Lynne bakes the cassava cake from now on. I will miss your quiet presence at future prayer meetings and the fervor of your voice as you lead a decade of the rosary. Godspeed, Melit! You will be so missed. Pray for us from up there! I know that you have suffered a lot of pain and you didn’t want to leave yet but rest now and look down on your beloved family and watch over them.
