Elizabeth (Betsy) Donohoe, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at the age of 71. Betsy was the precious daughter of the late John L. and Delores Donohoe; the dear sister of Gene (Mercedes), Tommy (Kate), Danny (Cheryl), Michael (Eileen), Patrick, and Lori O’Neill (Kevin). She was predeceased by her brothers John L. Jr. (Diane) and Marty. She was the loving niece of Kathleen (Donohoe) Cantwell and was cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Betsy was born with brain damage at birth, and from that moment forward she became our family’s special angel on earth. Raised in the Juniata Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, she was known and loved by everyone who crossed her path. She attended Our Lady of Confidence School, graduating with pride before going on to work at COMHAR alongside her mother, Delores, until her retirement.
Betsy lived with a presence that was unmistakable. She loved to sing, she loved to dance, and she had a gift for bringing joy into any room. No celebration was complete without her heartfelt renditions of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and God Bless America. She doted on her many dolls and stuffed animals, tending to each one with devotion. She also had a big appetite for life — especially when it came to sweets — and never missed a chance to enjoy a treat, even if she had to sneak it. On more than one occasion, Blaseys Bakery called the family to report that Betsy had wandered in on her own, not much to the Donohoe’s’ surprise. Sharing jokes and laughter with her siblings was one of her greatest delights, and her laughter had a way of turning the simplest moments into cherished memories.
She often honored her parents with her signature toast — “Cheers to Mommy” or “Here’s to Daddy.” Today, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with them in heaven, wrapped once again in their love.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday January 17th, from 9:00–11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 176 Stagecoach Road, Washington Township. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness to honor Betsy’s memory.
“A Life Well Lived Is Worth Remembering.”
Cheers to Betsy.
