Eleanor Eichenlaub
(nee Lineman) On November 30, 2023, of Washington Twp. Age 80. Beloved wife of Joseph. Devoted mother of Joseph Eichenlaub, Jr. (Jane), and Rosemary Hart (Charles). Loving grandmother of 8. Proud great grandmother of 6. Dear sister of Bernadette Henes (James) and Bernard Lineman (Joanne). Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Born to Harry and Marie Lineman on July 30, 1943, Eleanor grew up in the Kensington part of Philadelphia with her older sister Bernadette and younger brother Bernie. The importance of faith and family guided Eleanor and her siblings from a very young age. She graduated from St. Boniface Business School and entered the working world at the early age of 16. She soon found a job as a legal secretary in a patent law firm – a job that she would hold for over 45 years, typically commuting to/from center city by “the El” each day.
Eleanor spent many of her single years spoiling her 3 nephews and 1 niece including enjoying family vacations to the mountains, amusement parks, and a long adventurous road trip to Disney World. She created a strong community of friends – her “sorority” of confidants and supporters that continued throughout her life. Eleanor, however, yearned to find a partner in life and struck gold when fate and her circle of friends conspired, connecting her with Joseph Eichenlaub – a widower and long-term family friend. They began their courtship falling in love and marrying on February 25, 2000. Although circumstances drew them together later in life, they enjoyed over 23 years of marriage filled with laughter, travel, senior events, and lots of family celebrations. Eleanor loved joining the Eichenlaub family and especially treasured the time spent at the shore.
Gifted with a deep commitment to kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity, Eleanor was always the first to remember a special event with a card and phone call and to never visit a person empty handed – usually bring a delicious bakery treat. She will be remembered for her smile and gentle nature, her love for her own birthday, and traveling with her constant companion – her purse of plenty filled with a ready stock of hard candy. She will be lovingly remembered for her faithful daily phone calls with her sister, her devotion to her family, and her loyalty for friends. Her presence in our lives was a gift, and her memory will forever be cherished.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Tuesday 9:15 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Katherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM. Interment North Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
