Edward P. Peterson, Jr.
On January 23, 2024 of Washington Twp. Age 93. Beloved husband of Grace (nee Campbell). Devoted father of Edward Peterson (Marie), James Peterson, and the late Eric Peterson (Kim). Loving grandfather of Heather, Gregory (Kristen), Danielle, Jessica, Jennifer, Rachel, Heather, Lauren, and Eric. Proud great-grandfather of Vladimir, Bailey, Hayden, Mackenzie, Hunter, and Jack. Survived by sister-in-law Bunny McAteer.
Dad earned his living as an insurance under writer. He was always proud of the fact that he could write up to 25 million on his signature, which would be quite a huge amount today given dad retired in 1974. Dad and my mother did not do a lot of travel, but they managed a true bucket list trip when they took a two week cruise off the coast of Alaska. They also took a several week road trip up through New England and along the coast of Nova Scotia.
For someone who earned his living behind a desk, his true calling was working with wood. He had a full blown heavily outfitted wood shop in the basement and would “take orders” from family members for various pieces of furniture. We still have (and will keep forever) a beautiful hutch he built for us. Calling him an amateur woodworker would be insulting, he was a true artisan and craftsman in the the truest sense of the words. in addition, he was quite the artist; his specialty was old sailing ships. Along with some beautiful drawings he built several models. He was meticulous and detail oriented to a fault; he held himself to the highest standard.
He was a true role model for his three sons; perhaps his greatest legacy is the work ethic and values that we try and live by to this day and that we did our best to pass down to our sons and daughters.
He will be missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Wednesday, January 31st 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 10:00 AM. Inurnment Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
