Dorothy K. Masterson
(nee Riegel) On June 4, 2024 of Washington Twp. Age 75. Beloved wife of James. Devoted mother of Regina Leporati (Michael), Kathryn Pascale (Michael), Shawn Masterson (Allison), Meghan Lex (Carmen), and Ryan Masterson (Brionna). Loving grandmother of Brianna, Brandon, Ava, Abigail, Jackson, Alina, Brady, Brinley, and Luca. Dear sister of Barbara Sekel (the late James), Susan DiMattia (the late Ronald), John Riegel (Lisa), Kathleen Christine (Hugh), and the late Joyce Tomczak (Gene). Loved by nieces and nephews.
Dottie passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. She found the love of her life, Jim, at St. Joseph’s Elementary in Camden, and they became high school sweethearts at Camden Catholic, where they also formed many lifelong friendships.
Dottie and Jim shared 55 beautiful years of marriage, exemplifying a steady love that was both visible and palpable. Together, they raised five children, instilling strong morals and encouraging them to be their best selves.
A devout Catholic, Dottie served as a lector at Holy Family Church in Sewell. She built a distinguished career as a legal secretary at several prominent Philadelphia law firms, embodying the essence of a dedicated working mom who did it all.
Many described Dottie as a “firecracker”, “spunky,” “tiny but mighty,” and “strong willed.” Yet, she was also known for being loving, funny, and always there for everyone. She had an extraordinary ability to show up whenever someone needed her.
Despite her busy life, raising five children and working full time, Dottie found time to coach cheerleading, attend wrestling and soccer tournaments, read to inner-city kids, babysit her grandchildren, and still catch up with loved ones on the phone most nights. She truly had the gift of gab.
Some of her favorite things included spending time with family, sitting on the beach in North Wildwood, celebrating Irish weekend, enjoying a cup of coffee with lots of sugar, reading a good book, attending crab fest, watching Hallmark movies, taking trips to Ireland, and cheering for the Phillies. Above all, she cherished sitting around the kitchen table with family, laughing and sharing stories.
Dottie brought immense love and light to everyone around her. We will cherish our memories of her and welcome everyone to share their own stories and remembrances.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Sunday 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday 10:30 AM at The Church of The Holy Family, Washington Twp. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
