In Loving Memory of Doris Penrod
Doris, born in Frederick, Maryland, lived a life marked by resilience, love, and joyful simplicity. Raised on a farm, she began each day by milking cows before school – a strong start that defined her tireless work ethic.
As an adult, Doris held various jobs including working in a sewing factory, waiting tables at The Howard Johnson and being a cashier at a ThriftWay supermarket. Fate introduced her to a Marine who would become the love of her life and husband after only 6 weeks. Together, they traveled and moved around often.
Her career continued at Data Access, a computer company where she served as a customer service representative and shipping and receiving manager. She later retired from Super Quick, where she worked as a dispatcher and in customer service.
After retirement, Doris and her husband moved to North Carolina, enjoying 20 wonderful years filled with golfing, Mahjong, dining out, and traveling.
In her final decade, she returned to New Jersey, where she was able to be closer to her daughter. Doris was also blessed to find another special group of Mahjong ladies who welcomed her with open arms. As she became a little less independent, these dear friends supported and cared for her, and their kindness and companionship meant the world to her.
Doris loved reading on her Kindle, cherished conversations and visits from her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and friends, and remained a source of warmth and wisdom to all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Family and friends are welcome to attend her visitation Saturday, June 21st 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral Service 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’s memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
