Married Life with Dawn Smith By Ken Smith
How we met:
Her best friend came to meet me and watch the movie, Funny Girl at a Wildwood Theater. I saw Dawn and immediately fell in love. By the end of the movie, we never separated.
We got married about a year later.
Dawn was not real athletic, but still learned to snow ski, tried water skiing, Ju-Jitsu classes, and tennis. She felt like I did, that doing things together was important. We went to the beach, fishing, and all activities together. Just being with me and the kids was most important to her.
She helped me with car repairs, house repairs, and even major construction and improvements.
She loved her kids, my nephew Jimmy, like her own, and loved all our daughters’ friends. She always believed in the good in everyone. She especially loved the kids at W.T. School where she was a teacher’s aide.
She was a great cook, especially her holiday meals. (Her pumpkin chiffon pie was like no other).
She loved dogs, our many German Shepards, and especially her white lab puppy, who is just 1 year old.
She trusted and believed in me, no matter what the danger or problem, whether a broken car, or in a storm, or 10 miles offshore in a boat. Her loyalty and faith in me made me better.
She loved The Phillies, and loved watching our girls play softball. She also loved all the girls on all the teams.
Dawn and I were as one in mind on most matters. It was as if there were one mind controlling two different bodies. Dawn did not waste money and had simple tastes and needs. She did not put on airs, we just had a plain and simple life and were nice to all.
Her happiest recent times are seeing and being with her close family, especially Gavin and Kylie, her grandchildren. Not big on travel, but most loved going to our small bungalow on stilts outside of Wildwood and just being there, especially on the back deck by the marshland.
This list is entirely too short to do her justice, but too little time and too much to do before the funeral service.
Family and friends are welcome to attend her viewing Friday, August 15th 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at The Church Of The Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 12:45 PM. Interment Saturday, August 16th 12:00 PM at Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Cape May.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dawn’s memory may be made to the Cape May Zoo.
