Concetta Francofonte (nee Tagliavia) was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy on April 15, 1930. She passed away in her sleep at home surrounded by her children in Sewell, New Jersey, on November 11, 2022 at the age of 92.
The baby of the family, Concetta was the seventh child of Antonino Tagliavia and Caterina Tarantino. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Francesca Tagliavia, Maddalena Tagliavia, Diego Pennino, Santo Pennino, Providenza (Enza) Tagliavia, and Pietro (Petrino) Tagliavia.
On July 11, 1957, Concetta married Paolo Francofonte in Palermo, and together raised four children. Their family immigrated to Brooklyn, New York on December 1, 1974. Her loving husband passed away August 8,1986, and is awaiting her in heaven.
Concetta was devoted to her family and to God, and spent her years doting on her nipotini in Italy and the U.S. She was known for her beautiful hand embroidery, which continues to be cherished as gifts to her loved ones.
Concetta is celebrated and remembered by an extended family of four children, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was Mamma and Ma to Rosalia Mannino (the late Giuseppe), Caterina Mineo (Giuseppe), Francesco Francofonte, and Carolina Francofonte. She was affectionately known as Nonna Concetta, Patatina, Nonnina, and Nannooo! to her grandchildren Francesca, Antonio, Cetti, Daniela, Rosaria, Concetta, and Giuseppe. Her great-grandchildren Paolo, Beatrice, Giovanni, Giuseppe, Matilda, Michele, Elena, Edoardo, and Liliana remember her as Bisnonna, Big Nonna, and Nonna Vengo.
Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00 PM and Wednesday 8:15 -9:15 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd, Washington Township. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, Washington Township. Entombment All Saints Cemetery, Newfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Concetta’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
