Charles G. “Chick” Heard, Jr.

Charles G. Heard, Jr. was born on April 14, 1947, in Camden NJ to the late Charles and Mattie Heard. He departed this life on July 20, 2026.

Charles known by all as “Chick” was born and raised in Camden NJ. Chick attended Camden High School where he was a member of the boys wrestling team. After graduating from Camden High School in 1966, he enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1967 and was assigned duty upon the USS Orion at Norfolk Virginia. Chick was awarded the National Defense Service Medal during his service in the United States Navy.

Chick was a dedicated and hard worker. Over the years he would manage small retail stores and then worked for Camden County Department of Public Works for the Buildings and Operations Unit. He retired from working for the County after many years of loyal service.

In the Spring of 2000, he married the love of his life, Linda. The two loved to go to Atlantic City and attend Oldies Music shows. Chick was a lover of the oldies! His favorite songs were “Sideshow” by Blue Magic and “Cowboys to Girls” by The Intruders. Chick could be caught humming and whistling his favorite songs often or other tunes by the Dells, the Stylistics, the Whispers or even the Commodores.

Over the years Chick enjoyed spending time with his sister Paulette and her husband Rocky. Chick and Rocky even played in a men’s recreational basketball league and won a championship in the early 80’s together. Chick was also a football fan and enjoyed watching his favorite team play- the Philadelphia Eagles!

Chick enjoyed attending Christmas dinners and birthday outings with his family over the years and also loved playing cards with his friend Sonny.  Chick was a kind person who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He loved his family and friends and will be missed. Chick is preceded in death by his wife Linda Heard, parents Charles and Mattie Heard, Sister and Brother In Law -Paulette McAllister and Allen McAllister and Brother Scott Heard. He leaves everlasting memories to his daughter Stacy Smith, niece Ebony Heard, great niece and great nephew Taylor Heard and Isaiah Green.  Aunts Jannie Neal, Peachie Lee and Sharon Lee. Special friend of many years Sheila Clarke and card partner ” Sonny.” The memory of Chick’s life will remain a source of honor, respect and goodwill by his family friends.

Charles was laid to rest at Haleigh Cemetery at the Veterans Mausoleum,  Camden, NJ.
