On September 15, 2009, of Williamstown. Age 75. Beloved husband of Patricia A. nee Furnival. Devoted father of Charles A. “Bud”, Jr., Patricia A. “Pam” Tom, Maureen Hicks Art, Frederick L. Mary Frances, Catherine “Kitty” Roger and Thomas P. Christine. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Merrie, Erica, Ricky, John, Melody, Tim, Matt, Michelle, Bevin, Andrew, Justin, Jake, Juliet, Christine and Jacey. Proud great-grandfather of Caroline. Dear brother of Dr. Lawrence J. Mellon, Jr., John A. Mellon and Maryanne Melchiorre.

Chaz graduated from West Catholic High School for Boys in 1952 and LaSalle University in 1956. He retired from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection where he worked as a Senior Air Specialist. He devoted his free time to his wife, his family and his love of youth sports. He served as a coach for CYO Basketball and Blackwood Little League, coached JV Girls Basketball at Gloucester Catholic High School, refereed youth soccer and basketball, but he found his true calling umpiring girl’s softball with the IUA for over 30 years. Everyone who ever met Chaz will remember him with a smile because he brought so many smiles to so many people. He lived a joyful life, and we are all delighted to have shared that with him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Sunday eve 6:00 – 9:00pm and Monday 10:00 – 11:00am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Peace/St. Mary’s RC Church, Williamstown. Interment private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Charles’ memory be made to the Charles A. Mellon, Sr., Softball Scholarship Fund, c/o TD Bank, 591 Berlin-Crosskeys Rd., Sicklerville, NJ 08081.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Though we only had the pleasure of meeting 'Pop-Pop' on a few wonderful occasions, his gentle manner and his joyful character will always touch our hearts. May he rest in peace.

To all the Mellon's We know that Chaz is in our sweet Lord's paradise. This alone is comforting. I never met anyone who was so proud of his family. His personality was effervescent..his laugh, one of a kind. He will be missed and remembered. Love to all Bette and Lou

I just wanted to pay my respects to the whole Mellon family. I love you all very much. Ill never forget the great family parties at the Mellons house. I remember the Easter egg hunts, all the activities, and sports games that we engaged in. The one thing i can say was that there was NEVER a dull moment with you guys. My heart, Love, and prayers go out to you all. everybody always made me feel very welcome and part of the family. Pop pop was always a very pleasant person to be around and always full of energy. He had a huge love for his family, especially his grandchildren, I can definitly say that about him. You have to look at it like this, he is in Gods hands now and his mind, body, and soul are all at peace. One day we will all unite with him again to share peace, love, and happiness together again. I wish that I could make it to the viewing and/or the funeral, but now a days my life is crazy. My girlfriend and I are raising our three children together and im working seven days a week to try to provide a great and comfortable life and environment for them, just as mom mom and pop pop have done with there children and grandchildren. Ill never forget any of you as long as I live. God Bless and i hope to see you in the future.

Our deepest sympathy to Kitty and the entire Mellon family on the passing of Chaz. Chaz was larger than life and we have many happy memories of him. Besides always being upbeat, kind and compassionate, his laughter was especially memorable. He treated us like family and his kindness will never be forgotten. There are two types of people--those who come into a room and say, 'Well, here I am!' and those who come in and say, 'Ah, there you are.' He was definitely the latter. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow. Pop-Pop was a man who will never be forgotten. He set an example of how we should all live life to the fullest. He had a natural talent for making all who knew him feel very special. He will be missed by many.

We met Mr. Mellon at Mel & Mack's wedding. He was the first person to greet us. We felt very "at home" with Mr. Mellon greeting us. What a kind man he was indeed. We're so sorry to hear of his passing. Our prayers are with his family. God Bless..Peace be with you all.

I had the pleasure of working with Charlie for 20 years and he was always a lot of fun to be around and was able to liven up any workday with his great personality. From listening to him talk about his family it was obvious how much they were all loved by him. I worked another 10 years after Chaz retired and hardly a day would go by that we didn’t mention a humorous story about him. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our family's prayers are with the Mellon family at this time of mourning, but also to celebrate the life of someone who was well loved by his family and community.

Mellon family Melody shared so many fond memories of POP POP with Carolyn and I long before we met him. We had such fun with Charlie. We wished we had known him longer, what a GREAT GUY! I didn't hear until just now...I am a friend of Maureen & Art, and Michelle's first grade teacher. I remember Mr. Mellon coming to Sacred Heart where I taught, and seeing him at Maureen & Art's house for different events. He was really a wonderful man, and I know he loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Bud and Family, I just heard of Mr.Mellon's passing. I have many fond memories of him and I will keep you all in my prayers.

Pop Pop always made you feel like you were one in a million. Even though I was technically not his granddaughter he always made me feel like one. He was always in your corner and always cheering for you to be the best. I still remember him cheering for me when I "graduated" from 8th grade. His voice could always be heard and I know he will still be cheering from above.

I have thousands of fond memories with chaz and mom,christmas dinners at my house and theirs,watching saturdaynight live as a teenager at his house.He always knew I had my camera with me and would always say "Rich..take a picture"
