Bernard R. Kitzinger
On June 19, 2023, of Philadelphia. Age 83. Beloved husband of the late Jean Rose (nee Oldrati). Devoted father of Bernard (Michelle) and John. Loving grandfather of Danielle, Jordan and Stefan. Dear brother of Regina Bria (Sam). Cherished uncle of Christian Amato (Lynn), Jeana Foster (Gordon) and the late Raymond Amato and great-uncle of Sebastian, Addison and Lilia. Dear brother-in-law of Dan Oldrati.
Bernard R. Kitzinger was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He attended SE Catholic/Bishop Neumann High School graduating in 1957. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, eventually enrolling at the Philadelphia Police Academy in 1960, with a distinguished career of over 39 years. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant. He married his high school sweetheart Jean Rose Oldrati in 1961 and together raised their two sons as members of the King of Peace Parish in South Philly. They taught them respect, good manners, and the importance of education. They were most proud that both their sons attended St. Joe’s Prep H.S. and Villanova University. Their family was the most important part of their lives and always made sure their home was well decorated for holidays and special occasions. They loved family vacations and listening to Frank Sinatra on Sundays. In their retirement they helped care for each of their three grandchildren who became the jewels of their lives. In 1986 they moved to Packer Park and were beloved by their neighbors, always enjoying holidays and special events. Jean Rose Kitzinger passed away in April 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. They are now united again in heaven.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at SS. Peter & Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 12:15 pm. St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Chews Landing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernard’s memory to Families Behind the Badge.

One of my many fond memories of Bernie is how he was a true partner with his wife Jean. Back in the 60’s and 70’s there weren’t too many husbands that cooked and cleaned.
