Aurora Benignos Polutan
May 23, 1947 – May 3, 2024
Aurora B. Polutan (nee Benignos), aged 76, passed away on May 3, 2024, after battling diabetes for a long time. Aurora was born on May 23, 1947, in Maco, Davao de Oro, Philippines, to Aniceta (nee Arbuladero) and Exequiel Benignos. She moved to Washington Township, New Jersey, where she settled with her husband of 52 years, Rogelio C. Polutan, and raised their family. Aurora was a devoted mother to Faye Brown and April Ward (James) and a loving Lola to Eric, Donovyn, Ashley, Haley, Nolan, and the late Caleb. A dear sister of the late Dr. Arthur Benignos (Remedios). She was also a caring Auntie/Tita to many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Aurora was known by many names such as Auring, Awe, Inday, Day, Mom, Auntie, and Tita. She was a friendly, approachable, and helpful person who was always willing to lend a hand. Aurora was a breast cancer survivor and a resilient woman who loved having fun. She enjoyed taking pictures with and of her family and loved to travel. Aurora was always up for an adventure, especially hitting the dance floor and socializing with the Filipino nursing community. Through her numerous accomplishments and awards, such as Miss Pearl of Maco and Ms. Florence Nightingale, she will always be the Queen of our hearts.
Aurora’s nursing career blessed her life tremendously. She left the Philippines in 1969 and moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she met her husband, Roger. They married in 1972 and raised their family in Washington Township, Sewell, New Jersey, since 1980. Aurora retired from her job at Camden County Health Services Center (Lakeland) in Blackwood, NJ, in 2007. Shortly after her retirement, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo a mastectomy. In 2017, she had to undergo knee surgery, and in 2018, she began receiving dialysis treatment. Her husband Roger was always by her side as her dedicated caregiver. Aurora’s experience in geriatric nursing made her aware of the importance of being more conscious when dealing with older people. She urges everybody to be more conscious when dealing with older folks.
Remember, We all (or Hope) are Going to that Stage of Life.
