Ann E. Culkin (nee Doherty). On October 26, 2023 of Washington Twp. Age 78. Beloved wife of the late Francis. Devoted mother of Bethann Murphy (Casey) and Christine Culkin-Gemmell (Timothy). Loving grandmother of Aislinn, Frankie, and Molly.
After fighting valiantly through a two year battle with cancer, Ann passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and dear friends.
Ann was born to Elizabeth Wagner Cook and Thomas Doherty in New York, New York. After her father suddenly passed when she was 3, she was raised by Elizabeth and her Dad, Harry Cook.
Ann attended Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary school, West Catholic Girls High School, Misercordia Nursing School and Baylor University.
Ann and Frank married in 1966 and were married for 52 years. She moved to Fort Dix while Frank served in the army. They lived there both before and after his tour in Vietnam. Ann loved her role as an Army wife, supportive of Frank, a Captain in the US Army. Ann began her volunteer service on base, supporting other military spouses and performing other volunteer roles for the officer’s club. Upon leaving military service, Ann and Frank moved to Washington Twp where they resided for over 50 years.
Ann worked at Wills Eye hospital In Philadelphia and for Dr. Thomas Rozanski in Washington Township.
Ann served on the school board for St. Agnes School, Vice President of the Whitman Square Women’s Club, Board Member at Whitman Square Community Club, member of the Sacred Heart Guild, Wedgewood Women’s Club, the Washington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Washington Township. Frank’s love for service and the military brought him to VFW post 7579 in Mantua. Ann became a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 7579.
Ann had a passion for the environment and her community, and loved her work with Washington Township Environmental Commission and its dedicated, hard working team.
She also had a passion for health and clean living, and helped others in their quest to achieve the same. She found Shaklee married these interests of health and environmental awareness and loved working with the company. Ann always said she hoped to make a difference and put 1000 percent of herself into everything she endeavoured.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, November 3rd from 7:00-9:00 pm and Saturday, November 4th from 8:15-9:15 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo RC Church, Washington Twp. Interment, Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
