Alex Matthew D’Angelantonio
August 18, 2002 – April 2, 2024
On April 2nd, 2024, Alex Matthew D’Angelantonio, age 21, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after an 18-month courageous battle with cancer. Beloved son of Lori M. (nee Miller) and the late Dr. Albert M. D’Angelantonio. Loving brother of Nicholas D’Angelantonio, Christopher Courtney (Bridget), Dr. Katelyn Courtney (Vincent), Ryan Courtney (Halle), Dr. Albert D’Angelantonio III, Joseph D’Angelantonio, Christopher D’Angelantonio, and the late Michael D’Angelantonio. Cherished Grandson of Skip and Eleanor Miller and the late Albert and Christina D’Angelantonio. Loved by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Alex had a loving bond with his first nephew, Cole, who shared Alex’s middle name. Lastly, he had an undeniable special place in his heart for his first love and soulmate, Emily Lowe.
Alex attended Washington Township High School where he graduated in 2020 with the distinction of Cum Laude Honors. While there, he was an avid member of the Science Honors Society, DECA, and the Marching Band as a saxophone player. While at school, he did not feel as though his classmates had the financial education about basic money management. He took it upon himself to advocate in the school’s Financial Literacy Effort, a program designed to help educate high school students about financial freedom and money management. A true testament to Alex’s character.
Following high school, Alex chose to attend Rutgers University majoring in finance and participating in the Peer Leadership Mentoring Program. After completing two years there, he felt he could make a bigger community impact back home and decided to transfer to Rowan University. While at Rowan, he continued his outpouring selfless acts of kindness by participating in Student Government Association (SGA) where he was elected as the Assistant Vice President of University Advancement. Alex was in charge of managing the campus food pantry, known as the Shop at Rowan, where he helped those needing financial support for basic school supplies.
It wasn’t until August of 2022, when Alex was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer, Ewing Sarcoma. Even with the gravity of his diagnosis and the ensuing battle ahead, Alex maintained a 4.0 GPA and never missed any of his collegiate commitments. He proceeded to graduate early with the prestigious accomplishment of Summa Cum Laude Honors and with a double major in both Finance and Accounting. Yet another testimony to his relentless dedication and perseverance in anything he pursued.
In the ensuing months following his diagnosis, Alex endured days on end in the hospital, countless appointments, and an unimaginable amount of chemotherapy and radiation cycles. Amidst all of that, what came next would undoubtedly come as no surprise. Alex managed to be selected as one of just fourteen out of 10,000+ applications for a highly sought after JP Morgan Internship, his dream opportunity. But yet, just another example of his unwavering strength and undeniable tenacity.
There are countless other accomplishments that Alex had in his short time with us. But nothing could compare to the remarkable person he grew to become. He had an undeniable heart of gold. He always sought to put others before himself and lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed. He loved volunteering at Give Kids The World, helping support other ill children in need. He enjoyed teaching those old and young about Options Trading, something he did just for fun. He treasured laughs with all of his friends, loved playing video games, and had the most special place in his heart for his family.
While there are truly no words to describe how much Alex will be missed. His smile, his heart, and all memories of him will undoubtedly live on, forever and always.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Thursday 9:00 – 11:00 am at Gloucester County Community Church, 359 Chapel Heights Road, Washington Twp. Funeral Services 11:00 am
In honor of Alex’s life, lieu of flowers or other acts of sympathy, we would encourage any donations to the Little Warrior Foundation or Give Kids the World Village
