Alba Marie Welding passed away May 5, 2022, peacefully in her sleep.
Alba was born in Union City, NJ on August 14, 1935; she was the daughter of the late Ermindo and Mary Sabatini and raised by Adelaide and Eliseo Riva in Merchantville, NJ.
Alba graduated from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, where she met Gerald Welding. Gerry was the love of her life. They married on June 16, 1956 and moved to Washington Township, NJ in late 1958. She was a devout catholic and member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Alba devoted her life to helping and caring for others. Early in her career, she worked as a school nurse at St. Jude’s Elementary school, much to the chagrin of her children. She then joined the local hospital systems including Underwood Memorial as a Nurse Manager and John F Kennedy as the Emergency Room Nurse Manager. After a fulfilling career, Alba retired from the JFK Healthcare Rehabilitation Center as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
While she did not travel much, Alba was able to visit her beloved Ireland and add to her collection of Irish crystal and china. Alba enjoyed reading, watching endless episodes of NCIS, Law & Order and other TV crime shows. She also looked forward to “Friday date nights” with Gerry at the Library restaurant. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and cherished neighbors. Alba also loved her many German Shepherds, all of which were named Blackjack!
In addition to her husband Gerry, surviving are her children, Karen Ciminera (Peter), of Old Brookville, NY, Michael (Diane) of Mullica Hill, NJ; Linda (Shuba) Maitra of Hollidaysberg, PA, and James (Stephanie) of Washington Township, NJ and three grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Megan Welding.
Alba’s life will be honored and remembered privately by her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alba’s name can be made to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter or charity of your choice.
