John “Jack” Lyons, on February 8, 2019, of Rio Grande formerly of Washington Twp. Age 66. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Sullivan). Devoted father of Lynn M. Dochterman (Robert), John W. Lyons (Jennifer) and Christopher T. Lyons. Loving grandfather of Victor, Jada, Mya, Johnny and Jemma. Dear brother of the late Thomas Lyons. Also survived by his sister-in-law Gerarda.
Jack was extremely involved in the ice hockey community. He coached various teams for over 38 years, ran several hockey camps, was an off-ice crew chief of Philadelphia Phantoms, off-ice official for the Philadelphia Flyers, founder of Progressive Hockey Academy and founder of several other ice hockey clubs that are still going on today.
His other passion was golfing. He was a longtime member of Wedgewood Country Club as well as Running Deer and Cape May National. In his younger years he enjoyed being a mummer. He loved playing his guitar, dancing, singing, hunting, going to the movies, eating Mack’s Pizza, vacationing with his high school sweetheart, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed hanging with his friends at Legacy, taking his grandkids to the boardwalk, and attending their sporting events.
Jack was an incredible, caring, giving man who enjoyed helping people every chance he could. He truly lived his life to the fullest. Jack always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday 10:15 am-12:15 pm at SS Peter and Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Rd, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania “Leukemia”, ATTN: Penn Medicine Development, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

I just heard the news of Jack's passing yesterday. I am so sorry for your loss, and I wish I knew of his passing sooner so I could have paid my respects in person. I knew Jack through the game of golf over the last 10 years. He always was coaching, patient and quick to share his knowledge of the game and how to help improve my game. He will be missed. Mary I am very saddened to hear about Jack. We had some good times together when we use to take my dads motor home up hunting. Having 4 or 5 guys in a motor home you get to know each other a little better. I still remember the time when his archery equipment was stolen and we tracked down the guy who had it. I met Jack about 25 years ago playing in a golf tournament, which Jack won. I had moved to WT about a year earlier and didn't know anyone. After meeting Jack I got to know a lot of people. Got to play a lot of golf, hear a lot of jokes and have a lot of fun too. Over the years I realized golf was just a reason to spend some time with people who's company we enjoyed. Think Jack enjoyed everybody's company, and the feeling was mutual. Golf will never be the same. RIP my friend.

My heart breaks for the loss of our wonderful friend in Legacy. Jack was such a gregarious guy who lived to make people laugh. No doubt in my mind that he is telling all of his Angel buddies some good ones. My famous reply to his jokes was always the same, “You’re nuts!” But we all know that he wasn’t. He just enjoyed living and loving. We will miss him here on earth.

News travels far when it’s so sad, I just heard of Jack’s passing down here in Florida. We were grade school friends and Saturnalian members for many years. You moved to Rio Grande and that’s when I saw Jack at many of the outdoor concerts.

As Oncology nurses we meet many amazing, strong people and their families as they fight the battle of their lives. Jack was truly one of a kind! He was loved by all of the Dulles 6 staff that cared for him and his passing away has broken our hearts. No matter how Jack was feeling, he was always grateful, kind, caring and quick with a smile, a story or a joke. He loved sharing stories and pictures with us about his life and his family, his sports and his passions and he was even always quick to ask us about ours! Though we have many fond memories, we will always remember last year when the Eagles were in the Super Bowl. He ordered wings for our entire staff and many of us watched the game in “Jack’s room”! We would have mixed emotions when Jack was back in the hospital; from being so happy to see him and Mary, but so sad that his amazing life was once again interrupted. Yet, Jack took it all in stride and always remained positive. Our hearts on Dulles 6 would swell when he said he was “so happy to be home” and gave us all big hugs. Jack would say his nurses were his “God sends” and he was thankful to have us in his life, but really he was a God send to US and he will always hold a special place in our lives. He fought so hard and was brave through it all. We are deeply sad and sorry he is gone, way too soon. He will be deeply missed. We only hope Mary, his family and the many, many people that loved Jack find some peace in our words and the sharing of a few memories. We will be forever grateful to have met Jack, Mary and their wonderful family and friends. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

The news of Jacks passing is very very sad for the Passarelli family. Hockey was the passion that brought our lives together. We met Jack at Pennsauken Twin Rinks. He was such a nice, funny man. As Oncology nurses we meet many amazing, strong people and their families as they fight the battle of their lives. Jack was truly one of a kind! He was loved by all of the Dulles 6 staff that cared for him and his passing away has broken our hearts. No matter how Jack was feeling, he was always grateful, kind, caring and quick with a smile, a story or a joke. He loved sharing stories and pictures with us about his life and his family, his sports and his passions and he was even always quick to ask us about ours! Though we have many fond memories, we will always remember last year when the Eagles were in the Super Bowl. He ordered wings for our entire staff and many of us watched the game in “Jack’s room”! We would have mixed emotions when Jack was back in the hospital; from being so happy to see him and Mary, but so sad that his amazing life was once again interrupted. Yet, Jack took it all in stride and always remained positive. Our hearts on Dulles 6 would swell when he said he was “so happy to be home” and gave us all big hugs. Jack would say his nurses were his “God sends” and he was thankful to have us in his life, but really he was a God send to US and he will always hold a special place in our lives. He fought so hard and was brave through it all. We are deeply sad and sorry he is gone, way too soon. He will be deeply missed. We only hope Mary, his family and the many, many people that loved Jack find some peace in our words and the sharing of a few memories. We will be forever grateful to have met Jack, Mary and their wonderful family and friends. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

The news of Jacks passing is very very sad for the Passarelli family. Hockey was the passion that brought our lives together. We met Jack at Pennsauken Twin Rinks. He was such a nice, funny man. He had the best jokes. Jack knew my father Bob Kriefels who worked with Jack to put Pepsi in the rink. My father thought highly of Jack and throughout the last 25 years always asked about him. My husband Joe worked with Jack as an off ice official for the Phantoms and our son Phillip knew Jack through skating on several teams. He has always had a place in our heart and our family, we will never forget you Jack.
