Jerome Rossi, on September 30, 2015, of WashingtonTwp. Age 89. Beloved husband of the late Carmella. Devoted father of Victor (Kathy), Gregory and the late Jerome Rossi. Dear father-in-law of Patty Francano. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Victor, Stephanie, Jerome, Nicole, Nicholas and Kristin. Proud great-grandfather of 10.
Jerome’s family was originally from Ferentino, a little town outside of Rome, Italy. He was raised in South Philadelphia, one of 6 children. He later moved to Southwest Philadelphia with his loving wife Carmella where they raised their 3 children, Victor, Jerome and Gregory, before finally settling down in Turnersville, NJ in the early 1970s.
Jerome was an Army Rifleman in WW2, serving under General Patton as a Sergeant with the 347th Infantry Regiment of the 87th Infantry Division in the Third Army at the Battle of the Bulge. He earned a Purple Heart, along with several other awards for his service (Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Army Occupational Ribbon (Germany), European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon).
Jerome was a custom cabinet maker and interior designer. He opened the renowned Rossi Brothers Cabinetmakers in Philadelphia, in 1956, a family run business which is still thriving today.
Jerome was a true artist. He found beauty in everything. He loved to sketch, and draw, and paint. He loved to write stories and poetry. He loved music. He loved gardening. He loved food and loved to cook, he made an art out of his cooking. Everything he did, he did from his heart, with love. He was very intelligent. He loved to read and tell stories.
He loved his church. He was Head Usher at Sts. Peter and Paul Church for over 3 decades and taught catechism there for nearly 20 years. He designed the stained glass windows which decorate the church today. He loved the clergymen and his fellow parishioners, they were his extended family.
Above all else, what was most important to him was his family. He was deeply and truly in love with his Carmella. He was the father of 3 beautiful sons who loved him with their whole hearts, but only half as much as he loved them back. He had 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who absolutely adored him and he was so proud of them all. His best times were spent with his family.
He loved to entertain. His home was open to all. He was always quick with a joke and a smile.
Jerome had a smile that could light up a room. He was always smiling, always genuine. He made everyone he met feel like family. No matter how small the interaction, the impact he had was enormous. He was a loveable and warm man who never let you leave his home without a full belly or a hug and a kiss.
Jerome will be greatly, greatly missed and happily remembered by everyone who ever had the pleasure of crossing his path.
