Gladys R. Jurczykowski
(nee Lawrenz) On March 15, 2020 of Washington Twp. Age 79.
Beloved wife of Leonard. Devoted mother of Cheryl Capriotti (Robert) and Amanda Kircher (Christopher). Loving Babci of Madalyn, Jacob, Anabella, Zoie and Benjamin.
Gladys was born and raised in Camden, NJ. Although she was an only child, Gladys grew up surrounded by many cousins in the neighborhood and thought of them as her brothers and sisters. Gladys graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Camden in 1958. After high school, she worked at Sears and RCA in Camden. Gladys and Leonard met when they both were members of St. Lucia’s Choir at St. Joseph’s Church. Just one year after she was named the Polish American Citizen Club’s 1962 Polka Queen, Gladys and Leonard married. In 1965, they moved to Turnersville, NJ and began to build their life together in a new home. After welcoming their first daughter Cheryl Ann and their second daughter Amanda, she set aside her career and decided to stay at home and focus on her family.
Gladys had many loves in her life. She loved jigsaw puzzles, coloring, clipping coupons and searching for the best deals in all of the local stores. There wasn’t a cashier in town that she didn’t know by name. Gladys and Leonard were also very active in their local parish, Sts. Peter and Paul Church. She and Leonard enjoyed having monthly get-togethers with a group of cousins and friends.
Gladys’ ultimate role in life was realized when she was promoted to Babci. She played a major role in helping to raise her grandchildren while their parents worked. They each quickly became the greatest loves of her life. Anyone who knew Gladys knew she always cared more for others’ happiness than her own. Her selflessness touched people in many ways. Whether it was a friendly visit or phone call to check in on a friend or family member, a baked good that she’d deliver just to say thank you or an unexpected treat for the grandchildren, Gladys always put others first. Most of us won’t ever know someone who embodied kindness, selflessness and strength more than Gladys. Spoczywaj w pokoju.
Family and Friends are invited to attend her viewing Friday 10:30-11:30 AM at SS Peter & Paul RC Church, 362 Ganttown Rd., Turnersville, NJ 08012. Mass of Christian Burial 11:45 AM. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
