William Lewis Evans, on March 12, 2012, of Washington Twp. Age 85. Beloved husband of Helene nee Donn. Devoted father of Jason W. Rachel and Jeffrey C. Eunhee. Loving grandfather of Lydia, Connor, June and William.
After graduating from Wyoming Seminary, William served in the 11th Airborne Division in WW2 from 1944 to 1946 in the Philippines and Japan. After the war, he studied Chemistry first at Wilkes University and then at Penn State where he earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 1957. He worked at Dupont in Deepwater, New Jersey for over 30 years in the areas of explosives, dyes, fibers, and intermediates. His patents and publications in the field of organic chemistry are numerous. Outside of work, he enjoyed photography, flying, and was a member of the St. Thomas Church vestry for four decades.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday 10:00-11:00 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 212 North Main St., Glassboro, NJ 08028. Funeral service 11:15 am. Interment St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in William’s memory may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Building Fund at the above address.
