William Lewis Evans

June 11, 1926 - March 12, 2012

After graduating from Wyoming Seminary, William served in the 11th Airborne Division in WW2 from 1944 to 1946 in the Philippines and Japan. After the war, he studied Chemistry first at Wilkes University and then at Penn State where he earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 1957. He worked at Dupont in Deepwater, New Jersey for over 30 years in the areas of explosives, dyes, fibers, and intermediates. His patents and publications in the field of organic chemistry are numerous. Outside of work, he enjoyed photography, flying, and was a member of the St. Thomas Church vestry for four decades.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday 10:00-11:00 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 212 North Main St., Glassboro, NJ 08028. Funeral service 11:15 am. Interment St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in William’s memory may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Building Fund at the above address. What a wonderful man. He was such an asset to St. Thomas. He will be forever missed.

As a child, there was rarely a day that Jeff and I did not play at each other's houses or more often than not outside in the A-Frame behind the Evans' house. My memory of your father Jeff, was of warmth and kindness. I remember how we would play outside and he would always call us over and teach us different things; the power that water has on a wheel, the reflection and refraction of light on a window. Funny it has been so long, and I can still remember all of those things as if they were yesterday. God Speed. Andy
