William A. King, Sr., on September 5, 2018, of Washington Twp. Age 82. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Edwards). Devoted father of Laurie Piazza (Joe), William A. King, Jr. (Veronica), and Eric King (Wendy). Loving grandfather of Katrina, Andrea, Brent, Raymond, Angela, Brianna, Skylar, Samantha, Gia, and Michael. Proud great-grandfather of 7. Dear brother of Bobbi Macri.
William Alfred King, born on November 28, 1935 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa to Isaac and Anna King . Bill spent his youth in Wilkes-Barre until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1954. He attended Keesler AFB, Mississippi for Technical Training School as a Ground Radio Operator. He spent most of his military career with the Detachment #5, 6th Shoran Beacon Squadron (USAFE) Landshut, Germany. He was Honorably Discharged October 1957 having been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army Occupation Medal for his time spent overseas in Germany.
In 1960 he married Mary Ruth Edwards of Plymouth, Pennsylvania. He also attended Kings College under the GI Bill and graduated with a BS in Accounting. They went on to have three children, Laurie, Billy and Eric. They moved from Wilkes-Barre, Pa in 1963 and purchased their first and only home in Washington Twp, NJ for the princely sum of $14,100. Bill worked for the Department of Defense for over 33 years and retired at the age of 55 in December 1990. Recently, on September 2nd of this year they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Mr. King was heavily and personally involved in the Veterans Of Foreign Wars (VFW) and served as QuarterMaster of Post 4189 , Turnersville, NJ.
Bills many loves and hobbies in his life were Baseball, Bowling, Soccer, Pool, Darts ,Golf and winning or sometime losing money at the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City. He will always be remembered for being a loving husband, father and family man and for having the greenest and most manicured lawn in all of Washington Township.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Monday 9:00 – 10:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Parish – St. Mary’s RC Church, 32 Carroll Avenue, Williamstown. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am. Interment Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
